Why Find the Sacred?

Welcome. The aspiration behind what is offered here is a simple wish: that each human being, as best they are able, may find their way to the sacred landscape that lives within their own inner experience—supported by learning to appreciate what is alive and unfolding within the outer “ordinary” world.

“Sacred” is most often associated with religion, yet at its heart it carries a simple, secular meaning: discovering the extraordinary within the ordinary. As the pace of modern life draws us further from simplicity, we may have also—often unconsciously—sacrificed an opportunity to remain connected to what lies beyond who we believe ourselves to be.

This is a radical invitation: to cherish simplicity and the ordinary in a modern world that prizes the image of an enviable life. One obvious example is our growing disconnection from the natural world. Most of us recognize the nourishment that comes from spending time in nature, yet the pressures and momentum of daily life can make this difficult to prioritize.

Yet beyond reconnecting with the natural world lies something even more essential: returning to a living connection with our own wisdom and compassion.

Creating a relationship with your inner sanctuary—the wild and wondrous landscape of your own heart-mind—can be gently supported through simple practices such as meditation and mindfulness. These practices have roots in nearly all of the world’s spiritual traditions (including the Buddhist tradition, which is emphasized on this site), yet they can be practiced both secularly and in support of one’s own wisdom tradition.

The offerings here are an invitation to slowly rediscover the living links within your own being—links that lead back to a fundamental wisdom, compassion, peace, and contentment already present, quietly waiting for you to listen, rediscover, and reconnect.

“Formerly I offered flowers at the feet of the Divine.
Now I place them on my own head.”

— Ramakrishna
